Where It Works
Pea gravel's rounded stones are comfortable underfoot and drain fast. They also shift more than angular rock, so it's best where you want a soft, loose surface.
A natural, crunchy surface for garden paths, seating areas and fire-pit patios. Add edging so it stays where you put it.
Rounded stones are gentle on hands and paws, and water drains straight through instead of pooling into mud.
Use it around downspouts, in dry wells and behind retaining walls where water needs somewhere to go.
How Much to Order
Walkways and patios usually take 2 to 3 inches of pea gravel. One cubic yard covers:

How It Works

Remove sod and dig down 3 to 4 inches. Set metal, wood or paver edging so the gravel can't migrate into beds and lawn.

For paths with heavy traffic, compact an inch or two of aggregate base first, then lay landscape fabric to stop weeds.

Spread pea gravel 2 to 3 inches deep and rake it level. Top it up every so often as stones settle and scatter.

Is pea gravel good for a driveway?
It can work for a light-use driveway with solid edging and a compacted base, but rounded stones shift under tires. For most driveways, 3/4 inch crushed rock or aggregate base locks together better.
Will pea gravel wash away?
On flat ground with edging, it stays put. On slopes, it tends to roll downhill, so use angular crushed rock or decomposed granite there instead.
Do I need landscape fabric under pea gravel?
It's not required, but fabric keeps weeds down and stops the gravel from sinking into the soil, so you top it up less often.
Can I pick up pea gravel myself?
Rock is loaded in bulk at our yards. Call ahead to confirm availability and what your vehicle can safely carry. Delivery is usually easier for anything over a small load.
