Choose Your Bark
Every bark we carry does the same job: it shades the soil, slows evaporation and keeps weeds down. The difference is color, texture and how well it stays put.
Bold color that contrasts with green foliage and gray hardscape. A favorite for front yards and borders.
Best for: front yards, pathways, borders
A deep, clean finish that makes flowers and bright foliage pop. Reads modern next to concrete and stucco.
Best for: modern yards, flower beds, contrast plantings
Natural, chunky bark in an earthy brown. Suits any bed or tree ring and blends into the landscape.
Best for: tree rings, natural beds, large areas
Stringy fibers knit together, so it stays in place on slopes and in the wind instead of washing out.
Best for: slopes, windy spots, erosion control
How Much to Order
Most beds need 2 to 3 inches of bark to block weeds. Here's how far one cubic yard goes at common depths:
162 sq ft
at 2 inches deep
108 sq ft
at 3 inches deep
81 sq ft
at 4 inches deep
Buying bags instead? One 2 cu ft bag covers about 8 square feet at 3 inches, and about 13.5 bags make a cubic yard. For anything bigger than a couple of beds, bulk delivery is usually the better deal.
How It Works
1
Pull existing weeds and grass, then cut a clean edge along lawns and paths so the bark has a border to sit against.
2
Rake bark to an even 2 to 3 inches. Thinner lets weeds through, and much thicker can keep water from reaching the soil.
3
Pull bark back a few inches from tree trunks and plant stems. Bark piled against trunks invites rot and pests.

How often should I replace bark?
Bark breaks down over time, which feeds your soil. Most yards need a fresh top-up of an inch or so every year or two, once the color fades or bare soil starts showing.
Does bark really stop weeds?
A 2 to 3 inch layer blocks the light most weed seeds need to sprout. Pull existing weeds first. For stubborn spots, lay landscape fabric under the bark.
Which bark is best on a slope?
Shredded mulch bark. Its fibers lock together, so it holds on slopes and in wind where chunky bark tends to slide or wash away.
Can I buy bark in bags?
Yes. Bark comes in 2 cu ft bags at our yards. We don't sell online, so call or stop by. For larger areas, bulk delivery by the yard is usually cheaper.
